Most academicians begin their study of human civilization with the culture of ancient Sumer, which rose to datable prominence beginning ~3000 B.C.E. with that culture's use of writing. But when we look further back into the mists of time, we hear whispers of other worlds.... Did ancient, advanced civilizations exist? Everyone thought the ancient city, Troy, was a mythical city invented by Homer... until Heinrich Schliemann found it. Might not other myths and legends also have a basis, even a remote basis, in fact?
The SPHINX Group began as an Internet discussion about the age of the Egyptian Sphinx at Giza. As my delving continued, the subjects under consideration broadened: ANCIENT READINGS searches for clues to our prehistory in the academic disciplines of history, literature, mythology, astronomy, geology, and archaeology; ANCIENT MONUMENT... MODERN ENIGMA looks at the ancient Egyptian monuments specifically and the controversy over the age of the Sphinx at Giza; METHODS TO MONOLITH examines ancient building methods (and the 20th century's Leedskalnin) as well as the physical, acoustical, and astronomical properties of ancient monuments; and finally, ALTERNATIVE THEORY probes the Earth's prehistory with a more "academically incorrect" light.
